With a temporary visa (digital visa), you can stay in Mexico as a digital nomad for six months to 4 years. Should you wish to stay longer, you can apply for a permanent residence visa after your temporary visa expires.

Yes, Mexico allows individuals from other countries to work remotely. The only requirement is you must not enter the local job market and only earn income from a source outside Mexico. 

If you have a temporary residency visa, you will have to pay taxes for all income from Mexico. That said, if you’re working under 

Mexico is a culturally rich country with remote worker-friendly infrastructure. It also offers plenty of opportunities for fun and recreation. 

Most remote workers choose to go to Mexico City to work and have fun, but you’ll also find digital nomads and expats in Oaxaca, Merida, Guanajuato, Puerto Vallarta, and Tulum.

You'll live in each Remote Year city on your itinerary for either 4 or 5 weeks at a time—so, 28 or 35 days. The planned entry and exit dates for your itinerary can be seen in

Sometimes, depending on how many months in advance of your program launch date you're applying for a visa. When we are able to, we will provide you with this documentation, you'll just need to request it from us at welcome@remoteyear.com. In certain cases, it may be necessary for you to book a fully refundable hotel for proof of accommodation.

We can't specifically advise you on what to do because we aren't immigration advisors, however, we can tell you that most Remote Year participants (and their employers) have decided to go with tourist visas. The logic behind this is that they are "working while they travel" and not "traveling for work"—the same logic that allows you to bring your laptop on vacation!

For a majority of the countries visited on Remote Year (with the exception of our stop in Vietnam),  there aren’t any monetary requirements for entry. If you decide to visit neighboring countries it may be wise to carry around USD when looking to secure a temporary tourist visa. Most immigration do not take credit cards as forms of payment for temporary visas.

This all depends on a few factors, the two leading ones being (A) what country are you visiting? And (B) what country is your passport issued from. As each country’s visa requirements and practices differ, it’s always wise to contact them directly. Some visa’s happen right at the airport, with an instant application form and immediate processing times. While others require an online application filled out several business days before entry.

A merging trend for remote workers and the traveling community are digital nomad visas. Countries like Estonia, TK, are encouraging remote workers,  freelancers, and those who are self-employed with a digital nomad visa that extends the length of a tourist visa. Because Remote Year stays a month, we meet the traditional tourist visa requirement per visiting country.

The Aztec pyramids at Teotihuacan are the closest to Mexico City at less than 50 kilometers. There are two major pyramids on the site, with the Pyramid of the Sun being the largest.

Yes. Normally, it’s possible to climb the pyramids at Teotihuacan. But there may be restrictions, depending on the time of the year. That said, it’s important to check beforehand if your goal is to climb.

It’s advisable to wear light to avoid overheating. Ideally, you want to dress in long sleeves and pants, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen for proper protection from the sun. Also, remember to bring good shoes to withstand rugged stones.

Yes- Mexico City is generally a safe place to visit, particularly if you practice safety precautions- stay in known areas, don’t flash lots of cash around, and avoid less crowded places at night.

Mexico City is more expensive to visit than other smaller cities in the country, which makes sense considering its popularity. Nevertheless, there are possible ways of visiting CDMX on a budget, including planning your trip during the shoulder season, using public transportation, sticking to local dishes, and taking advantage of the top free things to do in Mexico City.
